Dental Cleaning and Consultation

Dental Cleaning and Consultation
Comprehensive implant dentistry by an experienced & trusted team

A professional dental cleaning removes plaque and tartar that regular brushing and flossing cannot fully eliminate, particularly from areas along the gumline and between teeth. Combined with a comprehensive examination by Dr. Ali Almaawi, DDS, FICOI, these visits form the core of a preventive care routine that helps catch dental problems early.

At Ashland Family and Implant Dentistry, each cleaning and consultation visit is handled with attention to your specific health history. We are not running patients through on a schedule. We are looking at your mouth, tracking changes, and giving you an honest assessment of what we find. Patients from Framingham, Natick, Hopkinton, Holliston, Southborough, and Milford are always welcome as new patients.

What Happens During Your Visit

Our hygienists carefully remove plaque and tartar from the tooth surfaces and along the gumline, then polish the teeth to remove surface staining and smooth the enamel. Following the cleaning, Dr. Almaawi performs a detailed examination of your teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissues. Digital X-rays or other imaging may be taken depending on when you were last seen and any clinical findings. At the end of the visit, Dr. Almaawi will discuss any findings with you directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I have a cleaning?

Most patients benefit from professional cleanings every six months. Patients with a history of gum disease, higher cavity risk, or other clinical factors may be recommended more frequent visits.

What happens if tartar is left untreated?

Tartar, also called calculus, can only be removed by professional cleaning. If left untreated, it irritates the gum tissue and can progress to gingivitis and eventually periodontitis, a more serious form of gum disease that causes bone and tooth loss.

Are cleanings uncomfortable?

For most patients, a routine cleaning involves mild pressure but no pain. If your gums are inflamed or you have significant tartar buildup, there may be some sensitivity. Our team works at a pace that keeps you comfortable throughout.
